Mid Winter Tea
Join us for our annual Midwinter Tea on Thursday, February 13, from 10:00–12:30, a cozy and joyful gathering for our school community. We will begin with a short performance by the children, followed by time to mingle, visit, and enjoy tea and seasonal treats with fellow families and students.
This special midwinter pause is a chance to slow down, connect, and celebrate our children and community during the heart of the winter season. After the tea, all children will head home with their adults for the remainder of the day. This is the perfect start to Mid-Winter Break!

Mid-Winter Break
Orcas Montessori School will be closed for Midwinter Break from February 16–20. This planned pause in our school year offers students, families, and staff a time to rest, recharge, and enjoy the slower rhythm of winter.
We look forward to welcoming everyone back after the break, refreshed and ready for the remainder of the school year.
ECEAP Conferences
Conferences for ECEAP-enrolled students are mandatory and an important part of our partnership with families. These conferences provide dedicated time to share observations, discuss your child’s growth and development, and collaborate on goals that support your child’s success at school and at home.
Families of ECEAP students are required to attend one conference during each conference period. Your participation helps ensure we meet program requirements while strengthening the connection between home and school.

Parent Observartions
Parents are invited to sign up for a 30-minute observation slot to spend quiet time in the classroom observing their child’s work, engagement, and progress. These observations offer a valuable window into the Montessori environment and your child’s day-to-day learning experience.
Observation times are limited and must be scheduled in advance. We appreciate families honoring the observation guidelines to help maintain a calm, focused classroom atmosphere.
Spring Break
Orcas Montessori School will be closed for Spring Break from April 13–17. We hope our families enjoy this time to rest, recharge, and welcome the spring season. We look forward to seeing everyone back after the break.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Parent–Teacher Conferences provide an opportunity to connect with your child’s teacher, reflect on your child’s growth and progress, and discuss goals for the months ahead. These conferences support our ongoing partnership between home and school and help ensure each child is thoughtfully supported in their learning and development.
Conference times are scheduled in advance, and we appreciate families prioritizing this important time together.
Memorial Day No School
Orcas Montessori School will be closed in observance of Memorial Day. We hope our families enjoy a restful long weekend as we take time to honor and remember those who have served.
No School Juneteenth
Orcas Montessori School will be closed in observance of Juneteenth. Juneteenth is a day of reflection and recognition of the end of slavery in the United States, and a time to honor freedom, resilience, and justice.
No School July 4th
Orcas Montessori School will be closed on July 3rd in observance of Independence Day. We wish our families a safe and joyful holiday as we take time to reflect on our shared history and celebrate together.
Thanksgiving Break
Orcas Montessori will be closed Wednesday, November 26th through Friday, November 28th for Thanksgiving Break. We wish all of our families a safe and joyful holiday!
No School Veterans Day
Orcas Montessori will be closed on Tuesday, November 11th in observance of Veterans Day.
Parent Observations and Conferences
We value your partnership in your child’s education, and parent observations and conferences are an important part of staying connected. Families are invited to schedule a classroom observation to see Montessori learning in action and better understand their child’s experience.
Fall conferences will provide an opportunity to sit down with your child’s teacher, review their progress, and discuss goals for the months ahead.
Soup Night
Warm up with us for a cozy community evening of soup, bread, and good company! Families are invited to drop in anytime between 5:30–7:30 PM to share a meal, visit with teachers, and connect with other OMS families. We’ll have a variety of soups and bread prepped and made by your children; gluten-free and vegetarian options will be available.
We can’t wait to gather around the table together!
Open House
Join us on Friday, September 26th from 6:00–8:30 PM for an Open House and Silent Journey. This special evening gives parents, and community members the chance to step into their child’s world, experience the Montessori classroom through their eyes, and gain a deeper understanding of the hands-on materials and philosophy that guide their learning.
We invite all families, new and returning, and interest community members, to participate in this meaningful event. Come explore, ask questions, and connect with our community as we share the joy of Montessori education together.
First Day of School
We are so excited to welcome our students back for the first day of school on Wednesday, September 3rd! The day will begin at our regular start time, and families are encouraged to arrive a few minutes early to help their children settle in. Please make sure your child comes prepared with weather-appropriate clothing, indoor shoes, and a labeled water bottle.
The first day is always filled with joy, new routines, and reconnecting with friends. Thank you for partnering with us to make the start of the year smooth and welcoming, we can’t wait to see you all back in the classroom
No School 4th of July
Please note that the school will be closed on July 4th in observance of Independence Day. We look forward to celebrating summer and continuing to provide a joyful, enriching experience for your children!
Juneteeth No School
In observance of Juneteenth, the school will be closed on June 19th. This day honors the end of slavery in the United States and is a time to reflect, learn, and remember.
We hope you enjoy this day with your family, and we look forward to welcoming your children back the following day!
Last Day of Academic Year
While this marks the conclusion of our formal academic program, we’re excited to transition into our year-round schedule with a new, outdoor-focused program designed to make the most of the season.
This dynamic program offers children more time to explore, play, and learn in nature while continuing to foster their growth and curiosity. We look forward to sharing this enriching experience with your children!

Washington’s Birthday No School
Orcas Montessori School will be closed on Monday, February 17th, in observance of Washington's Birthday. Classes will resume on Tuesday, February 18th. Enjoy the long weekend!
Mid-Winter Tea
We are excited to invite you to our Mid-Winter Tea performance! The event will feature a wonderful performance by the children and will include refreshments. To make this event a success, we ask that each family brings a potluck item (please note: no desserts). We look forward to seeing you there and sharing this special occasion together!
Martin Luther King Day/ No School
Please note that our school will be closed on January 20th, in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.. Classes will resume on the following day, January 21st. Enjoy your day off!
New Years Day
Orcas Montessori School will be closed on Monday, January 1st, in observance of New Year’s Day. Classes will resume as usual on Tuesday, January 2nd. We wish you and your loved ones a joyous and safe start to the new year!
Winter Break

Silent Journey
Orcas Montessori School invites the community to experience the transformative power of Montessori education through our upcoming Silent Journey event. This immersive and interactive experience offers parents, caregivers, and community members a unique opportunity to walk in the shoes of a Montessori child, exploring the principles and practices that make this educational approach so impactful.
The Silent Journey is more than an open house, it’s a chance to engage deeply with the Montessori method. Participants will move through our classrooms silently, just as students do, observing and interacting with the carefully curated learning materials that inspire independence, curiosity, and a lifelong love of learning.
To make the evening even more enjoyable, attendees will be treated to wine and light snacks as they gather to reflect and connect before and after the journey.
