Montessori Associate Guide

 

Position Summary:

 

Located in Eastsound, Washington, Orcas Montessori School (OMS) provides a Montessori primary classroom serving children ages 2.6 to 7 years old. As OMS seeks to expand access to all families who choose Montessori we are hiring an Associate Guide to work as part of our current team that includes an AMI Primary Classroom Guide, a Classroom Assistant, and a Student Support Associate.  

 

Under direction of the School Director, the Associate Guide (1) plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for students in coordination with Classroom Teacher and Assistant;  (2) prepares a structured, student-centered learning environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of all children; (3) monitors and evaluates student development and outcomes; (4) maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices; and (5) monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.

Eastsound is located on Orcas Island, part of the San Juan Archipelago. The island is home to tranquil valleys and shoreline, state parks, and nature preserves. Orcas Montessori School is committed to providing access to amazing Montessori classrooms for all children.  OMS does this through traditional tuition based funding and state funding (ECEAP) to ensure all families who choose Montessori can attend.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, implement and coordinate the Montessori classroom 

  • Set limits and boundaries and maintain appropriately high standards for child behavior in the Montessori context: self-discipline, independence, responsibility, grace and courtesy, respect for others, care of environment, care of self, and community building 

  • Observe student activity and base lesson-planning on observed needs and interests

  • Communicate effectively with colleagues

  • Provide a spirit of hospitality at school gatherings, occasional public events, and ongoing family engagement events

  • Participate in other school functions as requested by the Executive Director

Requirements

  • Bachelor‘s degree in applicable field of education or 2+ years’ teaching experience in early childhood education

  • Montessori primary training (AMI preferred); or willingness to attend and complete training

  • Experience collaborating and working as a teacher or teaching assistant

  • Enthusiasm and commitment to early childhood education

  • Creative, energetic, and nurturing personality

  • Organizational and interpersonal skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Experience with families from diverse backgrounds

  • Fluency in a language other than English is a plus

  • First aid/CPR training, TB test, criminal background check and references required by childcare licensing

This Full-time salaried position starts August 2022 or sooner for qualified candidate
