| The classic Montessori classroom is one of the most highly regarded educational spaces in the world. |
Founded in 1988, Orcas Montessori School on Orcas Island offers a dynamic learning environment
for preschoolers and kindergartners, based on the educational philosophy and method of Dr.
Maria Montessori, Italy's first female physician and a pioneer in childhood education. Her
first classroom was in Rome in 1907.
Our school year begins in September and ends in early June, with holidays and vacations parallel to the public school's schedule. Monday through Thursday, we offer morning-only, afternoon-only, and all-day sessions, depending on each child's readiness and classroom space availability. "Our goal is to provide the children with a classroom and curriculum that promote their natural and spontaneous physical, intellectual and social growth," says head guide Tom Rubottom. |
